Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actor known for her performance as the spirited lawyer Teri Joseph on the Showtime show Soul Food. Following her wedding, she was Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. In an Maryland high school competition at the beginning of her schooling, she won the prize for the best actress. She received her degree in acting at New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company' as well as in theatre. Contractor was a successful academic at the University of Toronto Toronto and also trained as a ballerina. Contractor was offered the lead role in Pericles following her one year stay at the University. The audition was held for the role at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. The 92 productions she performed were praised by Canadian critics. She accepted the invitation to join Stratford's conservatory, a program which allows just four men and eight women can take the 20-week crash course of classical theater. Contractor's spot was assured in the next season of shows as she was offered the character as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
